Building on a Century of Community: The Capreol Centennial Legacy Fund

Greater Sudbury, ON – Drive down Capreol’s welcoming streets any time of year and you’ll see it, a community shaped by the hands and hearts of its residents. From freshly groomed cross-country ski trails to the restored cenotaph, the tended cemetery, the riverfront monument, a restored antique fire truck, the many flower planters and trees, and the mural on the CN building, each project carrying meaning, memories, and pride.

For Lynn Mazzuca, Capreol isn’t just where she lives, it’s who she is. 

With a population of approximately 3000 people, Capreol is a quiet and quaint community nestled in the northernmost part of Greater Sudbury. With its deep-rooted history spanning over 100 years, its fairy-tale beauty attracts people from all over Sudbury and beyond.  

“It’s the people,” says Mazzuca when asked what makes Capreol special. “People here care deeply about keeping the legacy and future of our community strong.”

As a dedicated volunteer herself, Mazzuca has seen firsthand how resident-led projects have shaped the town’s beauty and spirit. “These projects require investment of resources and time. That’s why we established the Capreol Centennial Legacy Fund at the Sudbury Community Foundation. To honour the vision of past volunteers and community builders and invite current residents to keep that legacy alive by volunteering and by giving to a fund that will support community-led projects for decades to come.”

“The Fund will help support qualifying charities and not-for profits from Capreol applying for project funding through the Sudbury Community Foundation. “Investing in community creates a powerful sense of belonging,” says Mazzuca. “That’s what makes this opportunity so special. It benefits our town and people in so many meaningful ways.
